What is a Vitamin Infusion?
Vitamin infusion IV therapy, also known as intravenous vitamin therapy or IV drip, is a medical treatment that involves delivering a combination of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients directly into the bloodstream through an intravenous (IV) line. This method allows for faster and more efficient absorption of nutrients compared to oral intake.
The specific formulation of the IV therapy can vary, but it often includes a mix of vitamins such as vitamin C, B vitamins (e.g., B12, B6), minerals like magnesium and calcium, and other nutrients. Some formulations may also include amino acids, antioxidants, and other beneficial substances.

What To Expect: Your First Time In A IV Vitamin Drips Therapy
A Step-by-Step Guide to IV Vitamin Drips
Before Your IV Vitamin Infusion
- Consultation: Our Nurse and Nurse Practitioner will have a consultation with you. They will assess your individual needs and health history to determine if a Vitamin infusion can be given and recommend the appropriate infusion option.
- Preparation: You have the option to have blood tests completed beforehand. Alternatively you can bring recent blood test results with you, if you wish to share these to provide more information to the nursing team.
- Hydration: Staying well-hydrated before your drip is beneficial. This helps your body absorb the vitamins effectively.
During Your IV Vitamin Infusion
- Comfortable Setting: After your consultation the Nurse will take your blood pressure and then insert the cannula in a private room. You'll then be taken to the lounge area to take a seat in our comfortable recliners.
- The Process: The Nurse will prepare your chosen infusion option and then connect to your cannula for the infusion to begin. The vitamin solution will then be slowly infused through the IV line over a period of 30-60 minutes, with the Nurse monitoring during your session. A cup of warm tea, glass of water and/or heat packs and blankets are available for the session duration, to keep you relaxed and comfortable.
- Potential Side Effects: Some people may experience mild side effects like a metallic taste in their mouth, headache, or slight nausea. These are usually temporary and subside shortly after the drip.
After Your IV Vitamin Infusion
- Monitoring: You'll be monitored throughout your Vitamin infusion and can discuss any questions with the Nurse.
- Hydration Continues: It's important to continue drinking plenty of water after your drip to assist your body in processing the vitamins.
- Results: While some people may feel an immediate boost in energy, the full benefits of IV VItamin Infusions usually accumulate over time with repeated sessions.

Tara J17 August 2023I have been to Lokahi for two vitamin infusions in the last month due to being unwell. The team at Lokahi (specifically Holly, Julia & Kerrie) were so great words can't even explain. I went in so sick due to an anaesthesia reaction & they made me feel so comfortable & looked after. The nurses are so knowledgable & empathetic too. They have a beautiful relaxation/waiting area which they don't rush you out of post treatment so you can sit, have a tea and wait until you feel ready to go. Such a positive experience & will definitely be back in future.
